Match Report: Goole AFC (A)

AFC Mansfield progressed to the third round of the NCEL League Cup thanks to a penalty shootout victory over Goole AFC.

Phil Buxton's side travelled to the Victoria Pleasure Grounds after a short break from football, having had no weekend fixture prior to the match.

AFC Mansfield: Revuelta, Cropper, Rajter, Marsden, Slone, Dudley, Pipes, Hobson, Karkach, Weaver, Jatau

Substitutes: Mays, Gibb, D'Laryea, Appiah, Sketchley

Following a goalless first half, the Bulls finally broke the deadlock after some promising pressure through Mark Dudley, netting his first competitive goal of the season.

Goole were able to spin the game on its head however with two quickfire goals, as Joshua Dacre and Dylan Collington scored a goal each in the space of three minutes.

As the clock ran down, and hope was slowly fading, up stepped Thomas Cropper, who fired home with just one minute remaining to send the game to a fatal penalty shootout.

Heading into the penalty shootout, the Vikings got off to the worst possible start, sailing the ball far over the bar and into "row z".

Almost to comedic effect, Dudley stepped up and practically replicated the Goole miss, slipping and scooping the ball over the bar.

Both sides would go onto score their next penalties, before Goole rattled the crossbar.

However, with AFC Mansfield at an advantage and in control of the shootout, Cropper would calmly convert the final penalty to steer the Bulls past the challenge of Goole, and into the third round.
