BULLS FALL TO LATE GOAL

AFC Mansfield 0 - 1 Hemsworth Miners Welfare

The Bulls went down to a late strike from Hemsworth substitute Layton Swaine in a game where the home side never really got going.

Visitors Hemsworth MW took the points in a game full of effort but little quality. In the first half both sides huffed and puffed throughout and both had chances. AFC Mansfield probably had the better with top scorer Ross Duggan coming close on 3 occasions. But the sides went in level at the break and most would have said that’s how it would remain.

The 2nd half saw Hemsworth on the front foot and they looked most likely to score, again both teams had their chances but the visitors got stronger as the half went on and The Bulls were giving the ball away like Christmas presents to any Hemsworth player they could find.

The goal came in the 86th minute, a catalogue of mistakes. They didn’t close down the delivery, failed to track the runner down the right flank and then left the goal-scorer with time to pick his spot.

Manager Matt Chatfield said after the game “We weren’t good enough today; we were 2 yards off everything. Fair play to Hemsworth they were the better side.

We need to focus on Boxing Day and make sure we get back on track. We should have a couple of more players available and will have a training session on Tuesday to iron a few things out”.
